01Who manufactures the owa4x hardware?

owa4x is built on Owasys owa4X and owa450 platforms, proven European industrial gateways. Owasys handles hardware production and certifications (CE, FCC). Melqart provides the software ecosystem, integration, and ongoing support.

02What's the difference between owa4x IP67 and owa4x IP40?

owa4x IP67 is IP67-rated for harsh outdoor environments with LTE Cat 4, 9-axis sensor, and audio CODEC. owa4x IP40 is an IP40-rated compact gateway with LTE Cat 1, up to 2x RS485, and an optional M12 Ethernet connector for vehicle and compact installations.

03Does owa4x have a quad-core processor?

No. owa4x uses a single-core ARM Cortex A8 @ 800MHz processor. Both owa4x IP67 and owa4x IP40 variants share the same processor architecture.

04What operating system does owa4x run?

owa4x runs Debian Linux, not Yocto. This provides access to Debian standard repositories and supports C/C++, Python, Java, and Lua applications. You own 100% of your application code.

05How many CAN interfaces are available?

Both variants support up to 4 CAN interfaces: 2x CAN 2.0B @ 1Mbps and 2x CAN FD @ 8Mbps. This provides flexibility for complex vehicle networks and industrial protocols.

06Which variant should I choose, IP67 or IP40?

Choose owa4x IP67 for outdoor installations, harsh industrial environments, or applications requiring full dust and water protection. Choose owa4x IP40 for vehicle telemetry, compact indoor installations, or when you need additional RS485 interfaces.

07What's the difference from owa3x?

owa4x offers more processing power (Cortex A8 vs A7), more CAN interfaces (up to 4 vs 2), Debian Linux (vs Yocto), and higher cellular speeds (LTE Cat 4 vs Cat 1 bis). owa3x is more compact and lower power for simpler applications.

08Does owa4x support dead reckoning?

Dead reckoning is available on the owa4x IP67 variant with the optional 9-axis sensor. This provides position tracking when GNSS signals are temporarily unavailable.
