01What is the difference between the owa3x and the owa347A?
The owa3x uses a compact IP40 housing (120.6 × 85 × 32 mm) available in Industrial (owa3x-I: Ethernet + RS485) and Automotive (owa3x-A: CAN + GNSS) configurations. The owa347A uses a fully sealed IP67 housing (112.8 × 118.8 × 37.5 mm) with Fakra antenna connectors, optional WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, and up to 3 CAN interfaces including CAN FD.
02Who manufactures the owa3x hardware?
Both the owa3x and owa347A are built on Owasys platforms from a proven European industrial gateway manufacturer. Owasys handles hardware production and certifications (CE, FCC). Melqart provides the software ecosystem, integration, and ongoing support.
03Does the owa347A support WiFi?
Yes, the owa347A optionally supports WiFi 6 (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax) and Bluetooth 5.4. Both wireless interfaces can use external Fakra antennas or optional internal antennas.
04How many CAN interfaces does the owa347A have?
The owa347A supports up to 3 CAN interfaces: 2× CAN 2.0B at 1 Mbps, and 1× CAN FD at 5 Mbps. The owa3x-A variant provides 2× CAN 2.0B.
05What is the IP rating of each model?
The owa3x (IP40) is suitable for protected environments such as electrical cabinets and vehicle interiors. The owa347A is IP67 rated, fully sealed against dust and water immersion, and suitable for outdoor mounting on vehicles or machinery.
06Can I run my own applications?
Yes. Both variants run Yocto-based embedded Linux with full SSH access. You can deploy custom applications, scripts, and protocol stacks. You own 100% of your application code.
07Is there a development kit available?
Yes. The Owasys Development Kit includes the developer board, cables, antennas, and web access to the cross-compiler, APIs, and documentation. The Melqart alloy-it ecosystem provides additional tooling for both variants.
